Zinn Reader
June 14, 2011
Whether his subject is war, race, politics, economic justice, or history itself, each of Zinn’s works serves as a reminder that to embrace one’s subjectivity can mean embracing one’s humanity, that heart and mind can speak with one voice.

India’s Sunday Tribune reviews the Zinn Reader
June 2, 2011
“Is history then an art or a science and is it really possible to say what happened in the past without a bias? What is the nature of historiography in a post-modernist world? Should history abandon the search for objective truth about the past? Is it not important that it is time that history came to terms with its own processes of production? Voices of a People’s History of the United States, a companion book to Zinn’s previous bestseller A People’s History of the United States, is a significant answer to these questions.”

Howard Zinn’s 423-page FBI file released
July 30, 2010
Q: What is the greatest tribute an activist can be given?
A: The enmity of those in power. To that end, the FBI has today offered a great tribute to the late, great Howard Zinn, in the form of a 423-page declassified FBI file, covering Zinn’s activities from 1949 to 1974: essentially a list — vetted by America’s “best and brightest” and their faithful assistants of the period — of everything Howard Zinn did during the McCarthy Era, the Vietnam War, and all points in between to stymie the government and promote social justice and a more open society.
Happy reading — and thanks, Howard; you will be forever missed.

Zinn Reader reviewed at This Week at the Library
November 24, 2009
The Zinn Readeris one man’s commentary on his and the United States’ history and development. Zinn is a character in a larger story, responding to the historical events that unfold around him. Zinn is very much involved with history: for him, the idea that the historian is and must be neutral is wrong, fallacious even. Historians, and scholars in general, have the right and duty as human beings to respond to what is happening in their world — to champion the causes they see as righteous and to attack with fervency what injustice and lies they can. — This Week at the Library
