Brian Kahn, Real Common Sense at Busboys and Poets
April 5, 2011
April 5, 2011, 6:30pm, join Busboys & Poets for the launch of Brian Kahn’s new book (and response to Glenn Beck) Real Common Sense: Using our Founding Values to Reclaim Our Nation and Stop the Radical Right from Hijacking America. America’s extreme Right falsely claims the Founding Fathers as allies for their radical agenda. Pundit Glenn Beck has gone so far as to use the title of Tom Paine’s famous 1776 pamphlet Common Sense for his own book—a book that attacks the political, social and economic rights which Paine and the Founders fought for! Kahn claims it’s time to cut through the rhetoric, smoke, and spin, and get back to our core American values. The featured book is available for purchase at the Global Exchange store located inside Busboys and Poets, 5th &K. This event is cosponsored by Code Pink and Global Exchange. Event is FREE and open to the public! Location:1025 5th Street NW Washington, DC 20001.

Meet a Visiting Cartoonist: A Chat with Ted Rall
September 29, 2010
Ted Rall shares his experience in Afghanistan and discusses the purpose of his book in this brief interview with Mike Rhode from WashingtonCityPaper.com. He talks politics, targets the most severe problems for the American worker and the average citizen, and blames backwards American Capitalism for deliberately making America poorer. What can and should Americans do, according to Rall? Overthrow the government and start anew. As he says in the article, “We can overthrow the system that is abusing us and replace it with something better.”

The Black Body reviewed at Pamela’s Punch
November 20, 2009
From Pamela Sorenson’s wonderful review of the Black Body reading at Busboys and Poets on November 17, 2009:
… [Editor Meri Nana-Ama Danquah] reached out to friends, black, white, bi-racial. Many journalists felt their careers could be put in jeopardy if they answered this question in a published body of work. Other professionals thought there was no way they’d be quoted in black and white (so to speak). It could come back to bite them in the future. Those that did step up to the challenge include not only Kimball, but Hill Harper, Peter J. Harris, Kenneth Carroll, S. Pearl Sharp and many more, about 30 in total are heard from. Each one comes from a different background, race, religion, age, profession. Their words are honest, brutally honest, frank and open.
