Life imitates art: secret meeting of the superrich in New York City

John R. Talbott is no longer the only oracle in the Seven Stories authorial stable. Ralph Nader, author of the upcoming fictional utopia, “Only the Superrich Can Save Us”, successfully predicted the secret meeting of the superrich that took place at Rockefeller University in New York City on May 5th.

From MSNBC’s piece on the clandestine meeting:

Among the high-profile participants were Ted Turner, Warren E. Buffett, George Soros and New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. . . Several of the people at the meeting confirmed their involvement, but declined to tell The Chronicle about what was discussed or why they gathered almost in secret. According to IrishCentral.com. . . each philanthropist was given 15 minutes to talk about “how they saw the future global economic climate, the future priorities for philanthropy, and what they felt the elite group should do.”

This is, of course, eerily similar to the plot of Ralph Nader’s book, “Only the Superrich Can Save Us”, in which Warren Buffett gathers a group of seventeen superrich individuals in an attempt to bring their wealth, power and influence to bear on some of the most pressing social problems in America. But who are Nader’s superrich—and is philanthropy, in the narrow sense of donating money to select organizations, really the approach Nader feels his seventeen billionaires should take?
